Beware of new tricks:
I just wanted to add that this is 100% true. One of my best friends fell victim to this trick less than a month ago.
He lost a P900.
Regards,
Hong Just beware ...... Beware of new tricks. The following is said to be a true story
On Monday, 20th September 2004, i was conned by a man in Sunway Pyramid. This is how the story goes. At approximately 2pm, a man called me up asking me about my company's product. He said his name is Mr.Foong from GWC. After a while, he said he wanted to meet up with me for a discussion right that evening because the Director, is here from Singapore. It's rather urgent he said. So, we decided to meet up in Starbucks, Sunway Pyramid at 4.45pm.
I reached Starbucks at 4.30pm, and as soon as reached there, this Mr.Foong called me up from a public phone, wanting to change the venue to Sushi King. Without much question, I went to Sushi King to wait for him.
He came and introduced himself, and we went into Sushi King. The first 10minutes was ok,I was telling him about the GPS solutions that my company can offers. But all the while he looks like he is waiting for the Director to arrived. While we were talking, my handphone vibrate (i put it on silent mode), and I peak to look at who's calling, it was HIS hp number who was calling me. I asked him, "how is it possible that i get a call from your hp number when you are here in front of me?" He replied, "Oh no, my wife is coming with Pn.Zaharah (the Director of GWC) and she's holding my hp".
So, I answered the phone, and the woman on the other line asked if I was with Mr.Foong and if she could talk to him for a while. I passed the hp to him, and he talked to the so called wife. While they were talking, this Mr.Foong said that his wife and Pn.Zaharah is in Summit. It seems that they are from Singapore and that they've lost their way here.
So,out of the instance, he stood up and said to me, "Give me 5minutes, I'll wait for them at the main entrance", while still talking to the wife with my phone. I was shocked for a while to see him leave with MY hp, but i come to think...., all his documents and bag is still here on the table.
And the bag is pad locked somemore! After about 20minutes of waiting, I started feeling uneasy already. Then the waitress came to my table and told me that there's a call for me at the counter. I went to take the call, and it was Mr.Foong saying that he is actually at the Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel's lobby waiting for the wife and the Director because it seems that the wife only knows how to get to the hotel. He asked me to bring his stuffs along with me. I said ok, took his stuffs and paid the bills, and use the connecting bridge to go to the hotel.
Once I reached the hotel, I looked for him all over the place, but he is nowhere to be seen. I decided to call my hp, and surprising enough, it was OFF. At this moment, I know I was conned already. I walked back to Sushi King, asked the staffs there if they saw the man who was with me earlier there, all of them said no. I felt like shouting already. I tried to break the pad lock of the bag, but i know it's a waste of my energy. I asked for a knife from the kitchen, and tore the bag. For heaven's sake, the moment the bag was torn, I really feel like killing that man! The bag is full of old newspapers and stones for goodness sake!!!!!!! Oh my GOD...!!!!!!
So ladies and gentlemen, Please be aware of these kinds of people. They look very decent and nice, and the worse part is, this so called "Mr.Foong"
is not a young man, he looks at least in the early 40's I may say. My mistake was I didn't make a police report about this incident because I was too stumped at the moment. I barred my phone line and reported to Nokia about the hp. I hope everyone who reads this email will forward this to all your loved ones just as a reminder that this kind of "white collar crime" do exists. Especially to all the sales and marketing ladies out there, please be careful when meeting clients.
